Fiji is not part of the three-day meeting on Freedom of Information in Pacific Countries currently underway in the Solomon Islands.

The event, organized by the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, will discuss issues ranging from the Pacific plan to democratic governments.

Speaking from Honiara this morning, the Forum Secretariat's Media Officer, Johnson Honimae confirmed that an invitation was sent to Fiji through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs following which the Secretariat was informed that Deputy Secretary for Information Major Neumi Leweni would be attending the meeting.

However, Honimae said that Major Leweni turned down the invitation in the last minute.

The meeting is expected to end tomorrow and Major Leweni is expected to comment later on the issue as he is currently in the Cabinet meeting.
