The Fiji National Sevens Team have finally ended their two years winless drought at the Gold Coast Sevens last night after beating New Zealand in the Final by 26-12.

New Zealand beat Fiji in pool play but Fiji turned the tables in the final after outscoring New Zealand by four tries to two.

Fiji started the final on a high after captain Setefano Cakau scored in the third minute but New Zealand king pin Tomasi Cama cancelled the lead after scoring two successive tries to lead the first half 12-7.

Three unanswered tries by Fiji to Joeli Lutumailagi, Emosi Vucago and Watisoni Votu in the second half was enough to seal the much awaited win.

Osea Kolinisau said that divine intervention was the key to their success and he dedicated the win to the fans as well.

Meanwhile, captain Setefano Cakau and Jimilai Naikadawa were injured in the pulsating final and were carried off the field.

The next leg of the IRB Sevens series will be held in Dubai next weekend where Fiji have been pooled with Samoa, Argentina and the United Arab Emirates.
