The Vodafone Fiji 7s team has finished on fifth place at the Sydney 7s after defeating USA 35-12.

Fiji earlier lost to New Zealand 24-21 in a thrilling quarterfinal but managed to win their last two games to finish on a flourish.

Nemani Nagusa scored two tries in the first half while the other three tries was scored by Samisoni Viriviri, Nacanieli Labalaba and Jasa Veremalua.

Captain Osea Kolinisau says they had to come out with a win against USA to keep the series race alive.

Kolinisau adds that it was tough losing out in the quarters but he praised the players for coming back in their last two games.

Speaking to Fijivillage, coach Gareth Baber says they are disappointed but was happy to see the new players stepping up.

Baber is also urging the fans to be patient with them.

He adds that speedster Joeli Lutumailagi missed out on the last two games as he went through a concussion test from their game against New Zealand.

The national side will fly back to Fiji tomorrow before regrouping and prepare for the American leg next month.
