The Vodafone Fiji 7s team has finished in third place in the Scotland 7s tournament.

This is after they beat Scotland 17--10 this morning.

Fiji lost to New Zealand in the Cup semifinal 19-14 earlier this morning.

The wet and slippery condition took its toll on the players as the side committed a lot of handling errors in the match.

Fiji raced to an early 7-nil lead with speedster Samisoni Viriviri scoring the first try before New Zealand replied with a try to captain DJ Forbes and Bryce Heem to take a seven point lead at halftime.

New Zealand registered the first points in the second half with a try to play maker Gillies Kaka as they extended their lead to 19-7 with three minutes left in the match.

After a long passage of play, Fiji reduced New Zealand’s lead to 5 points with a second try to Viriviri.

Fiji’s chance of stealing the victory was dashed as Semi Kunatani knocked the ball forward in the dying minutes of the game.

Meanwhile, the All Blacks 7s team thrashed Canada 54-7 in the Cup final.

Scott Curry and Ben Lam scored two tries each as Gordon Tietjens’ side was ruthless in the victory against a Canadian side playing in their first ever Cup final.

Captain DJ Forbes said all the credit goes to the players.

The win sees New Zealand with 158 points on course to win a 12th title in 15 years.

South Africa is in second place with 139 while Fiji is third with 129 points.

The last leg of the sevens series will be held in England this weekend.

Fiji is pooled with Spain, Japan and Australia.

Fiji takes on Spain at 9.44pm Saturday in the first pool match.

We then take on Japan at 12.50am Sunday and play Australia at 4.38am Sunday in the last pool match.

The Cup quarterfinals start at 10.28pm Sunday, the semis start at 2.18am Monday and the Cup final will start at about 4.51am Monday.
