“We had tears in our eyes when we saw the devastation caused by the flood when we passed Nadi.”

Those are the words of the emotional Digicel Fiji sevens playmaker, Nikola Matawalu.

Speaking to Fijivillage, Matawalu said before landing at the airport, they could see the devastation in Nadi.

Matawalu added that it was like a war zone and things are scattered everywhere, houses badly damaged and some houses even washed away with cars and roads being put off.

Meanwhile Matawalu’s team mate Joeli Lutumailagi will be making his way to CWM hospital this week to personally deliver his promise to his mate Mitieli Nacagilevu.

Lutumailagi promised Nacagilevu that he will return with the Hong Kong 7s trophy.

Speaking to our sister station Viti FM, Lutumailagi said he broke down in tears after the final in Hong Kong because he knew he has fulfilled the promise made to his friend.
