The failure to win or even reach the final in South Africa since 2006 is what the Digicel Fiji 7s team will need to overcome in the Nelson Mandela Bay 7s this weekend.

Fiji last won in South Africa 5 years ago beating Argentina 21-19 in the final and it was in the same IRB 7s series where they won the overall prize for the first time.

None of those players who were part of the team then is still in this side but coach Alifereti Dere and Eddy Waqa will take a lot of comfort from that win in 2006 because that same scenario of two coaches in the team is what they have now.

Fiji lost to New Zealand in George in the semifinal last year and they do not want a repeat this weekend.

Fiji will play Portugal at 10.37pm this Friday in its first pool match, then they will play Zimbabwe at 1.43am Saturday and the last pool match is against Wales at 6.32am.

The cup quarterfinals start at 11.44pm Saturday while the cup semifinals start at 3.59am Sunday.

The Cup final will kick off at 6.40am Sunday.
