After the national sevens rugby team won the USA 7s Bowl title today, Coach Ben Ryan is still disappointed about the team's performance especially with the loss to New Zealand in pool play.

Ryan told irb.com that the result is disappointing but there were some things that didn't go their way.

Fiji's most successful rugby coach who also represented Fiji and the Wallabies, Ilivasi Tabua believes the penalties conceded by the players proved to be our downfall at the USA 7s.

Tabua said there were numerous penalties conceded in the contact area and Fiji's rush defense didn't work out as New Zealand exposed it during the last pool game yesterday.

Tabua added that one on one tackles is an area of concern but it can be fixed before the New Zealand 7s next weekend.

The national side has been pooled with New Zealand again for the Wellington tournament next weekend and they will meet in the first pool game.

New Zealand and Fiji are also pooled with Spain and France.

Fiji won the Bowl competition after beating Kenya 35-0.

It was a scrappy performance from Fiji but managed to score five unanswered tries through Lepani Botia, Donasio Ratubuli, Samisoni Viriviri, Henry Seniloli and Leo Naikasau.

Fiji led 19-0 in the first half.

Fiji beat Uruguay 38-14 in the quarterfinal yesterday and defeated Wales 40-12 in the semifinal this morning.

Meanwhile, South Africa successfully defended their USA 7s title after beating New Zealand in the final 14-7 this morning and is also the first team in the world series history to win back to back titles.

The South Africans won their own tournament last month and have taken the lead with 78 points on the table followed by New Zealand with 77 and Fiji is third with 56 points, England have 54 and Samoa is fifth with 47 points.

Canada defeated Samoa 22-19 in the third place playoff, England beat Australia in the Plate final 26-24 while USA thrashed Spain in the Shield final 31-0.
