It’s all over for the Digicel Fiji 7s team as they bowed out of the Wellington 7s earlier this afternoon.

Fiji lost 19-17 to defending champion Samoa in the quarter finals.

Fiji started off badly after captain Etonia Naba was yellow carded and Samoa scored two quick tries to lead 12 nil. The Samoans extended their lead to 19-0 at half time.

Fiji came back strongly with two tries to Setefano Cakau with the score line to read 19-12.

Tomasi Mawi scored Fiji's 3rd try but the conversion from Neumi Nanuku missed from almost in front of the posts. Samoa won 19-17.

Fiji was awarded a penalty in the last minute of play but Samoa managed to turnover possession and kicked the ball out.

In other quarter finals favorites New Zealand beat Wales 40-5, Australia thumped Scotland 31-7 while Tonga upset South Africa 14-10.

In the first semi-final at 5.35pm New Zealand will take on Australia while at 6pm Samoa face Tonga.

Speaking to Village Sports, Manager Opetaia Ravai said the loss was too hard to take for coach Joe Savou and the boys.
