Fiji 7s Hopes For Good Start
With new coach and 10 new players in the team, confidence is high and Iliesa Tanivula will shortly have a good talk before the players start warming up for their opening match against USA at 12:44pm.
Tanivula said it's now on the players to perform. He also said he has Fiji at heart and he will use his experience in NZ rugby to build the mental toughness of the Fijian players.
On the other hand, NZ 7s coach, Gordon Tietjens said Fijians are always unpredictable and dangerous in the 7s code and that is the reason why he has four Fijians in his team to ensure that they successfully defend their title at home.
South African coach Paul Treu said leading New Zealand going into the third leg is something his side has never done before and hopefully they can continue performing well in Wellington.
The New Zealand International 7s tournament has just kicked off with the opening match between England and France. Fiji plays its first pool match against USA at 12:44pm, we then take on Cook Islands at 3:40pm and then Samoa at 8:12pm tonight.
If Fiji wins all its pool matches then it is likely to face Argentina in the Cup quarters however if they come second in their pool then Fiji will face off with England in the quarter final.
Back home, 7s star, William Ryder who is training hard to make it into the World Cup 7s team, said coach Iliesa Tanivula should be given all the support that he needs.
