Fight against drugs is working-Police
Director Police National Intelligence Bureau, SSP Henry Brown said that this is evident that they are making headway in their battle against marijuana cultivation attributing the success to the community awareness campaign carried out with the village heads right around the country.
SSP Brown said that comparing the number of raids for the first nine months of this year, 11 thousand 236 plants were uprooted with an estimated street value of $56 million while there were 49 thousand and 985 plants uprooted for the same period last year.
However, he stresses that one of the challenges faced by the Police Drug Unit is the fact that the cultivators are getting smarter as they are relying on planes, yachts, vehicles and even horse back to evade police and widen their network.
Meanwhile, with regards to the recent bust at the Suva Wharf where 128 thousand Contact NT pills were confiscated, SSP Brown reveals that it is an ongoing operation and they are working on some leads.
He added that the bust was carried out after a tip-off and reveals that these pills after being processed would cost $5.5million in New Zealand currency.
