A few groups had peaceful protests in relation to the Fiji flag in different parts of Suva, Nasinu and Nausori yesterday.

Some people were seen holding up a number of Fiji flags in groups at Ratu Sukuna Park, at Princes Road, the Valelevu roundabout and the Nausori Town roundabout.

No official comments have been made by the groups.

They conducted these peaceful protests and then put the photos up on social media.

The public feedback period on the Fiji flag designs ends next Tuesday.

Over the weekend, Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama urged every Fijian of every age and background to give their opinion on the current designs and suggest new designs.

Bainimarama calls on people to join the crusade to find a national symbol we can all identify with ‑ a design that speaks on the experience of being a Fijian now and in the future, not the experience of our colonial past.

The Prime Minister says there is a range of designs that people are now being asked to comment on.

He says he knows that public reaction to the 23 designs that have been put out has not been entirely positive.

Bainimarama says they also know that many Fijians do not object to the flag to being changed but want a design they like.

The Prime Minister says we also know that a lot of Fijians are now, only after the designs have been put out are getting engaged and suggesting new ideas.

He welcomes this debate about the designs, the criticism of designs as well as the positive responses that have come in.

Bainimarama assures everyone that the Government does not intend to cut corners and it certainly intends to listen to the new suggestions.

The Prime Minister stresses that none of the current designs are locked in stone, and if necessary, the government will review the current process to get the right result.
