It is not compulsory for Parents and Guardians to pay for any extracurricular fees like Scouts, Girl Guides, Cadets, excursions and swimming classes.

This is after some parents and guardians of Nadi Airport School have raised concerns on why the school has sent a letter asking them to pay a compulsory levy of $150 per child per year which will cover the cost of computer, swimming and art classes for students.

Minister for Education Filipe Bole said schools will first seek the approval of the extracurricular activity fees from the Ministry of Education and if approval is given, parents and guardians are not obligated to pay for it.

Bole said it is up to the parents whether they want to pay for these fees.

According to Bole if parents do not pay for these fees, the schools cannot do anything to them as it has been stated by the government that payment of extracurricular activity fees is not compulsory.
