Father to spend Christmas in jail
William Prasad was today sentenced to six years imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to robbery with violence and larceny before Acting Judge, Justice Salesi Temo.
The court heard that on the 15th May last year, Prasad and two others hired a 7 seater van driven by Ravinesh Ram to Lami, then to Omi street and was told to stop.
Prasad who was sitting at the back of the driver put a knife to his neck and was warned not to resist.
The driver was later tied up while Prasad and his friends drove the van to Sawani.
They stole $20 cash, a mobile phone, stereo and amplifier worth $1,799.
The properties were later recovered by police from a pawn shop at Nausori.
Justice Temo told Prasad that he showed total disregard to the driver who was earning his money peacefully by putting a knife to the driver's neck.
