A 44 year old father of Lautoka who was found guilty of one count of rape and two counts of indecent assault of his 14 year old daughter has been sentenced to 16 years imprisonment by the Lautoka High court this morning.
Judge Justice Paul Madigan while sentencing the man told him that the rape and indecent assault were a gross breach of trust. He said a 14 year old girl is still not mature and the animal behavior of her father will scar her for the rest of her life.
He highlighted that the court cannot ignore the severity of such behavior, it is a breach of trust of the worst kind and a destruction of a father-daughter relationship.
Justice Paul Madigan also said that the crimes are becoming far too common in Fiji.
The man raped his daughter in 2008 and last year.
