The 49-year-old cane cutter of Nadi who was charged with allegedly raping his 14-year-old daughter, appeared in the Nadi Magistrates Court this afternoon.

The father pleaded guilty to seven counts of rape and one count of indecent assault before Magistrate Laisa Laveti.

Magistrate Laveti then asked the accused if he had a lawyer to which he replied he needed time to arrange a counsel for himself.

The matter has been adjourned to the 15th of this month and the accused has been remanded in custody.

It is alleged the father first raped his daughter when she was 12-years-old and since then the man allegedly continued to rape her.

The matter was reported to police after the victim's grandmother noticed a sudden change in the girl's behaviour.

The girl relayed the information to her grandmother who then reported it to police.
