The appointment of the fifty members of the ten Wage Councils was announced this afternoon and for the first time a sole chairperson will overlook all ten councils.

Permanent Secretary for Labour Taito Waqa said that Father Kevin Barr has been appointed as the chairman, and will be reporting to the minister and his primary role is to administer the effective and efficient operation of all Wage Councils.

Waqa added that the all members of the Wage Councils will be expected to make decisions objectively in the interests of the nation to promote social justice in the area of renumeration setting.

The new members are expected to be formally inducted at the beginning of July.
