Fate of Air Fiji in Tuvalu govt hands
Tuvalu's Minister for Transport Taukelina Finakaso said their main priority is to pinpoint why the company plunged into a financial crisis.
He confirmed that a decision on Air Fiji is expected when shareholders, the Tuvalu government, Aviation Limited Tuvalu and China National Aero-technology Limited meet on June 13th.
Finakaso confirmed that he met with Air Fiji management who have raised serious concerns on the plight of the 170 workers who remain without any pay for almost a month.
Meanwhile, as the major shareholders await the audit report into the airline company's financial records they are exploring the possibility of taking over the entire management of the company.
Finakaso said that they have not been involved in the running of the company until now and the audit would determine whether there is a need for a major overhaul of the entire management team of Air Fiji.
He said on June 13th, a decision on how to pull the company out of the doldrums is expected to be made and until such time, the airline company remains closed.
