As the month of Ramadan commences today, Muslims in Fiji and around the world start month long period of fasting, prayer and restraint from human pleasures.

During this period they are not allowed to eat or drink between dawn till dusk. Ramadan is the month of revelation of the Holy Quran and the month of reading and reciting the whole Quran.

A Muslim priest from Nasinu, Molana Mohammed Rashid said may Muslims look forward to this day, adding that by fasting they realize how important water and food is for survival and how many people in the world do not have this necessity.

Muslims believe this is the blessed month of Allah B A month of blessing, mercy and forgiveness.

Meanwhile, following month of Ramadan, a Muslim holiday, Eid al Fitr is celebrated, when first moon is sighted which marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.
