Involving farmers in developing new technology from the very beginning of the development process is one of the best methods of technology transfer.

These are the words of team leader of EU funded Development of Sustainable Agriculture in the Pacific, Dr Siosua Halavatau at the 2nd Extension Summit currently underway in Nadi.

He said farmers are to be treated as stakeholders and should be involved in any innovations those extension officers want to deliver.

60 participants from 17 Pacific Island countries are taking part as many countries are plagued with many issues such as climate change, increased poverty and global recession thus this summit looks at agriculture with renewed approaches which could be the lifesaver to many of the Pacific Islands problem.
