The Sugar Ministry believes farmers do not need representation in the industry after a decision was made last week to dissolve the Sugarcane Growers Council.
Permanent Secretary, Parmesh Chand said farmers can take their grievances directly to the Fiji Sugar Corporation or the Sugar Industry Tribunal.
He adds that so far the reform has focused on the institutional side of FSC and the industry stakeholders.
Much of it has focused on seeing how best the industry institutional structure can be rationalised, so that there is a much more leaner structure in place which costs less in terms of over heads to both the farmers and industry.
Through the sugar industry plan consultations are underway to reform transportation, harvesting and field operations.
