The heavy down pour experienced in Viti Levu from yesterday has affected the livelihood of many farmers in the West.

More than 100 farmers in the lower areas of Sigatoka will not be able to take their produce to the market due to continous rain since yesterday.

Rural Local Authority Chairman Ratu Jolame Lewenivanua told Fijivillage that this weather is rather unusual for the month of September.

He also said heavy rain since yesterday has damaged a lot of crops in the Salad Bowl of Fiji.

Looking at Ba, Koronubu resident Shalini Singh said their area has experienced heavy rain from last night and it has seen many cane farmers struggling to harvest their cane.

Singh added that the farmers are worried especially since the huge flood experienced earlier this year.

Turning to the Naitasiri area, the Naqali Bridge remains under four metres of water.

Director Police Operations SP Erami Raibe advises commuters to remain at home as it is unwise to cross the flooded bridge.

This means that residents from the upper Naitasiri area past Naqali cannot travel down to Suva and Nausori.
