A 30‑year‑old farmer of Solodamu village in Kadavu is the country's latest drowning victim.

Police Spokesperson, Josaia Weicavu said the man was drinking alcohol in a fibreglass boat with four others at Vunisea harbour when their boat sunk.

He said the victim failed to swim ashore with the others and a search conducted straight after the incident occurred proved futile.

The man's body was then found by officers from the Vunisea police station.

The drowning toll currently stands at six compared to four for the same period last year.
