A 30-year-old farmer of Labasa has been sentenced to two and half years imprisonment by the Labasa Magistrates Court today for attempting to rape his 22-year-old cousin.
Police prosecutor Dharmendra Kumar told Magistrate Anare Tuilevuka that on 1st September last year, the victim was returning home from a nightclub with some friends and asked the accused to accompany her home.
The accused told the victim to take another road and on the way grabbed her and attempted to rape her.
The victim screamed and her friends came for her rescue.
The man fled the scene, however, was arrested later.
