As people around the country prepare to celebrate Diwali next Tuesday, the Fair Trading Department officials are on the ground monitoring retail outlets selling fireworks.
Acting Director Anare Vadei said their officials are on the ground for the safety of the members of the public and people caught breaching the laws will be dealt with accordingly.
He has called on retailers to abide by the laws as certain fireworks are banned in Fiji.
Meanwhile, he has stressed that people are only permitted to use crackers from 5pm to 10pm before Diwali and 5pm to 12am on Diwali night.
