A family of Nadonumai, Lami is mourning the loss of their 12-year-old member who drowned while on a school field trip to Colo-i-Suva on Thursday.
The victim’s mother Latu Fakalawa who couldn’t hold her emotions told Fijivillage that she spoke to her son on Thursday morning and is still coming to terms with her loss.
She said her son knew how to swim however she never saw him swimming.
She shares what those at the scene of the incident relayed to her.
The boy’s body was discovered by the caretaker and attempts to revive him failed.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at the CWM Hospital.
A post mortem will be conducted soon.
Police are yet to question the teachers and caretaker.
