A Rakiraki family is mourning the loss of their only child in Rakiraki after the 8-year-old accidentally swallowed and choked on a balloon yesterday afternoon.
Police confirmed the girl was playing outside with her friends while her father was inside and her mother had gone shopping.
Police said after some time, one of the children playing with her alerted a 17-year-old who went in to check on her and discovered her on the floor lying face downwards.
The girl was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
