Sitting in front of the charred remains of their home with tears in their eyes, a family of 13 is still in shock after a fire destroyed their house in Shalimar Street Raiwasa early this morning.

The family was at a Boxing Day function at a relative’s place when they got a call at 3:30 this morning that their house was on fire.

When Fijivillage visited the scene this afternoon, the family was in the process of trying to salvage their cooking utensils to be able to make some food to feed their hungry children.

The home owner, who was too distraught to give an interview had a look of helplessness on his face and all he said was that he does not know what to do.

A fire investigator is at the scene collecting information from neighbors and eyewitnesses to ascertain the cause of the blaze.

The NFA confirmed the fire started at around 3:30 this morning and when they arrived at the scene the wooden house was engulfed in flames and they managed to contain the blaze from spreading to nearby homes.

Meanwhile, a fire destroyed three classrooms at the Lelean Memorial School in Davuilevu last night.

Nausori police have confirmed that a report was received at around 9.55 last night and by the time fire fighters and police arrived at the scene, the three wooden classrooms were fully engulfed in flames.

The classrooms were on the block B side of the school.

The emergency call was made by the school pastor.

Investigations are now underway to ascertain the cause of the blaze.
