Four people are homeless after a fire this afternoon destroyed their one bedroom house at Yalandi Street in Lautoka.

According to National Fire Authority NFA Lautoka received the fire emergency call after 12 today and upon reaching the scene the fire fighters quickly established two deliveries of two hose lengths to extinguish the fire and hot spots.

The one bedroom corrugated iron and timber house was destroyed in the fire together with its household contents.

Two people were in the house when the fire broke out and they escaped through the front door.

Initial investigations indicate that the fire started in the bedroom and a child was playing with matches.

Divisional Fire Officer Western Mr Isoa Makutu advises parents to talk to their children and discuss the consequences leading to playing with matches, and stress to them how dangerous it can be.
