Family celebrations turn into nightmare
The National Fire Authority confirms that they received a call at 2:30 this morning and when they arrived at the scene the house was fully engulfed in flames.
According to the NFA, the home owner, Temalesi Galala felt the heat from the fire when she was asleep in her bedroom.
She then woke up and saw one of the bedrooms on fire and alerted neighbours for assistance.
Quick action by the firefighters prevented the spread of the fire to a house located just one meter away.
Luckily no one was injured in the fire.
NFA Divisional Officer Western Isoa Makutu said initial investigations reveal that the fire may have started from a candle left burning on a table in one of the bedrooms.
Makutu reiterates the need for people to take extra precautions when handling such fire ignitions and stressed that while such items may be necessities used at home, they need to be handled with care.
