Life in Vatukoula may be hard for many but for us we have used our land to earn a living.
This is what the wife of a former mine worker at the Vatukoula Gold Mines Astrid Bakewa said as she tries to raise her family of four.
Speaking to Fijivillage this morning, Bakewa said her family initially started with 3 chickens and 1 pig and a small plot of cabbage which today has grown to over 20 pigs and chickens along with a larger plot where they grow seasonal vegetables.
Bakewa also said she has two children and one who attends school in Vatukoula at Nilsen High. Neither she nor her husband is working.
She said many people are struggling to make ends meet and said the aid is timely for many other families.
