“This is such a happy day for us and we could not have asked for anything better.”

The Late Private Temo Raikoro Veilewai’s wife, Liku Veilewai mentioned this while speaking to Fijivillage after receiving keys for her new three bedroom welfare house at a subdivision in Nakasi from Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama today.

Veilewai died during the 2000 coup and his family has since been looked after by Liku Veilewai’s elder sister in Lami.

She adds they are hoping to move into their house next year after gathering their household items.

When asked by Fijivillage on what would be her Christmas wish, Veilewai says that she wished people cherished their lives more as it can be taken away in moments.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama says he was in Nakasi today to honour the sacrifice and mourn the loss of Fiji’s six fellow Fijians who gave their lives in the service of their nation 16 years ago.

He adds that a total of six members of the disciplined forces lost their lives in the 2000 coup.

Bainimarama says these are the Fijians who selflessly put their country ahead of themselves and everyone is indebted to them for their bravery.

He says that these are the men who answered a call to serve a cause larger than themselves and to serve a nation and the people they loved.

Bainimarama says as people gather to remember their service, people must also cherish and care for those they have left behind.

Two families received the keys for their new three bedroom house today while the construction of the remaining four houses will be completed by June next year, which will then be handed over to the families of the fallen heroes of the 2000 coup.
