Families Plead For Assistance

Nausori Command Centre, Corporal Alexander Naisaboca has confirmed that right now in Nukutubu Rewa, 15 houses are under water, Drekena Village, 15 houses are also under water and they are using seven double storey houses as evacuation centres,
Naisaboca said in Nabua village 6 houses are underwater,in Nasali village 5 houses and those that have been evacuated are using the Nabua village community hall for shelter.
He adds Navuso village underwater while in Dravuya, 12 houses are underwater.
Naisaboca said the whole of the Rewa Delta, Nakelo, Kiuva and Buretu are currently without power. He also said those sheltered at Naikaikogo Indian School, LDS are running out of food and will need assistance adding they have sent their request to DISMAC Nausori.
As water levels recede slowly in the Nausori area, people are still taking shelter at two evacuation centers.
Nausori Mayor Jagdish Bali said assistance is being provided to the people taking shelter at the evacuation centers.
He confirms that the town is open for business.
The Nausori Airport remains closed until further notice. This has also been confirmed by Airports Fiji Limited Nausori Manager Timoci Ravanua, who said while water outside the terminal is receding they will not open the airport just yet. Ravanua said this was decided at a meeting to ensure the safety of passengers and pilots.
