The Coordinator of the Fiji Women's Crisis Centre, Shamima Ali said that the fact cannot be denied that some men are also abused by their spouses however she said one should not forget that this comes in a minority.
Ali's comment come after a research done by the Health Ministry shows that men are also abused by their spouses which is a hidden side of domestic violence in the country.
The Health Research Manual shows that the study which examined the prevalence of domestic violence against males included 216 married participants out of which 108 were males and 108 females.
Results compiled by the study team shows that men also suffer from physical, financial, sexual, verbal and psychological types of abuse. It said that women being angry were identified to be the main causes of men's experience of violence whereby social obligations have been identified as a contributing factor.
The report shows that many men react emotionally and seek assistance of a priest. The study has also found that most men experienced spousal abuse at home where children are also witnesses.
