The Fiji Law Society President has rejected the National Council for Building a Better Fiji's suggestion that if majority of the people accept the People's Charter then it would give the document legitimacy.
Isireli Fa said this idea is ill-founded and cannot be taken seriously as the collective will of the people is highlighted in the constitution.
Fa said the constitution is clear that proposed changes or legislations need to go through parliament first before their enactment and the rules cannot be changed if some people are unhappy with it.
Meanwhile, interim Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said Fa should stop speculating and try to assist in finding a legal and constitutional way forward for Fiji.
An National Council for Building a Better Fiji (NCBBF) document states that if a majority of Fiji's people endorse and embrace the Charter then it will become the collective will of the people of Fiji.
It said this will give it legitimacy.
