Lawyer representing former Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase and the SDL party has filed a formal appeal against the High Court ruling which ruled in favor of the President and interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama last month.

Lawyer Tevita Fa confirmed to Fijivillage that he filed the appeal yesterday afternoon and stressed that he will not comment on the grounds for appeal at this stage.

Fiji Court of Appeal Officials also told Fijivillage that the appeal was filed last week, however Fa was then instructed to make certain corrections in the document before lodging the appeal.

Officials also confirmed that while a date is yet to be set, it is likely the appeal would be heard early next year during the February session of the Appeals Court.

Fijivillage had been informed that the grounds for appeal include that the three presiding judges in the case had failed to take into consideration various submissions regarding the actions of the Army Commander and the RFMF between December 4th, 2006 to January 5th, 2007.
