Communities are slowly realizing their roles in the prevention of violence against women.
These are the sentiments of Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre Coordinator Shameema Ali who said this year they will continue to improve on their work especially regarding more awareness in communities.
Ali also said services that respond to women must improve, as this year has seen an increase in the number of repeat cases on domestic violence and child sexual abuse.
The latest statistics showed that the number of repeat clients seen by the centre has increased from 708 to 979 at the end of 2009 and the number of child sexual abuse cases reported has increased from 38 to 56.
