The Fiji Womens Crisis Center has rubbished claims that the way children and young women dress leads to them becoming victims of rape.

Center Co-ordinator, Edwina Kotoisuva responding to questions raised by Fiji Taxi Union General Secretary, Rishi Ram at a workshop addressing the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children this morning.

When the floor was opened up for questions, Ram stood up and said that women also had a part to play in rape due to their clothing, however Kotoisuva said that a few years back there was a report of a rape of a 90 year old woman who was bed ridden and even a report where a 2 year old child was raped.

Kotoisuva said in both cases one victim was in diapers and another bed-ridden and this showed that clothing was not the problem.

She even went on to stress that according to ILO survey done in Fiji, 93% of the time the accused were known to the victim and who had spent some time with the victim, getting to know them before raping them.
