One of the women's organizations has raised concerned that people charged with robberies are often denied bail however this is not the case with defilement and sexual abuse cases.
Fiji Women's Crisis Center coordinator Shameema Ali said crimes such as defilement and sexual abuses is a serious offence and in such cases the victim and the accused are either neighbours or come from the same place.
She said such matters are not treated seriously.
She also said that Police prosecution should strongly object to bail being granted to those charged with such crimes.
There were three cases of defilement in the northern division alone where six men in three different cases charged with defilement, attempted rape and assault were all granted bail.
In all three cases the accused opted to engage Legal Aid counsel.
