The Educations Ministry's new initiative to provide free text books to selected primary schools from next year has been welcomed by the Fiji Teachers Union.
FTU General Secretary Agni Deo Singh said they are hoping that the poor and needy children in primary schools are the first to be targeted through the free text book program.
Education Minister Filipe Bold earlier said, selected primary schools will be provided free text books and they hope to implement the program in all primary schools by 2011 before the secondary schools are targeted.
