The Fiji Taxi Union is now calling on the Police Department to start carrying guns after the alleged brutal murder of a 40 year old taxi driver from Siberia Labasa.
Union General Secretary Rishi Ram said robbers’ nowadays are not afraid of Police officers as they are sometimes unable to defend themselves physically. He said its time that Police start carrying guns.
Police are expected to comment later on the matter.
Meanwhile, Police are calling on the public for assistance to locate a white Toyota Corrolla Sedan Taxi registration LT 1254 which was used in a robbery in Lami yesterday.
Assistant Police PRO Suliano Tevita said four men after assaulting and robbing the taxi driver, pushed him out of the vehicle and drove to Nukuwatu Street where they threatened the Receptionist of Pacific Building System with empty beer bottles and fled with cash.
