The Fiji Teachers Union is waiting for a list of teachers that will be reemployed by the Education Ministry.
General secretary Agni Deo Singh said according to the State Services Decree, specialist civil servants would be retained to assist with the smooth running of the Public Service.
Singh had earlier revealed that these teachers should be retained to assist new teachers who would be drafted in by the Teachers Registration Board to help in rural and island posting.
Around 800 teachers who reach the age of 55 or above by the end of this month are expected to retire.
Meanwhile, the senior officials of the Education Ministry are currently in a meeting to decide on the issue and have refused to make any comments at this stage.
