The Fiji Taxi Union has raised concern on the directive issued by the Interim Transport Minister Timoci Natuva to the Land Transport to reduce the taxi fare flag fall tariff by 50 cents effective from the 5th of February.
General Secretary Rishi Ram said this clearly means that they have gone back to 1st January 2001 when the taxi fare was increased with the price of diesel 45 cents per litre.
Works Ministry spokesperson Sainiana Waqainabete earlier told Fijivillage that following the reduction of fuel prices, the Interim Government decided in all fairness and justice to the people of Fiji to reduce the taxi fare tariff.
Waqainabete said the increase in tariff was on the basis of the Taxi Union's outcry and justification used by the Fiji Taxi Union for application which was approved by the former line Minister in January 2008.
