FTU Concerned Over Roads Not Fixed
General Secretary, Rishi Ram said that after repeated letters to the Interim Government and PWD nothing has been done and they are looking at ceasing services to the area by next week.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Works spokesperson, Sainiana Waqaibete said that two particular roads have been of great concern to them as this is part of the major road rehabilitations outlined for next year as these roads are 80% gravel.
According to Waqaibete, Koronivia is prone to flooding and they would need to improve the drainage system, build culverts, tar-sealing needs to be done and elevate the road as well.
For the Baulevu Road which is damaged as a result of the heavy trucks that use it as well as flooding, a total rehabilitation needs to be done as well.
Waqaibete adds they have ear-marked the two roads because of the economic returns they would get from the area in terms of logging and farming.
