The Fijian Teachers Association has called on the Ministry of Education to respect and care for teachers.
Speaking at the public consultation on education reforms at Suva Grammar School, FTA General Secretary, Joji Nakaora says the Ministry of Education has a weakness when dealing with the welfare of teachers.
Nakaora says as a representative of more than 4000 primary and secondary school teachers the Ministry of Education is not respecting teachers in the way they should be.
Minister for Education, Doctor Mahendra Reddy then responded to the comment by saying that it was irrelevant and that they are very mindful of teachers welfare.
FTA General Secretary, Joji Nakaora then raised an issue about the payment of teachers salary but the Minister for Education, Doctor Mahendra Reddy said that it was not true.
Another public consultation on education reforms was held at the Labasa Civic center today.
