The Fijian Teachers Association strike has been called off in the last hour as Executives of the Fiji Islands Council of Trade Unions now meet to contemplate their next move.

FICTU General Secretary, Attar Singh has revealed that they plan to file a fresh strike notice with the Labour Ministry on Monday, to stage another strike when the third term of school commences in late August.

Singh also revealed that the FICTU Executives will also deliberate on the option, whether to call off the strike by the Public Employees Union and the Viti National Union of Taukei Workers and file a fresh strike notice on their behalf as well.

FICTU is also exploring a number of legal options and Singh confirms that one avenue available to them is to take the matter to court if their dispute is not referred to arbitration over the next two weeks.
