The Fiji Sugar Cooperation in conjunction with the Customs Department is carrying out a thorough investigation in relation to the illegal exporting of sugar from Fiji.

FSC Chief Executive Officer, Deo Saran has confirmed to Fijivillage, that some companies were exporting sugar using the consolidated cargo which the companies use to export items to overseas.

According to Saran these companies do not hold a licence to export sugar, as only the FSC has the exclusive rights.

Saran added the Customs Department has now put in strict measures which will prevent this sort of illegal activity from taking place.

When asked on what sort of action can be taken against those companies who were illegally exporting sugar, Saran stated that it's for the Customs Department to decide on the matter.
