The Fiji Sugar Corporation has announced that it has plans to bring forward the final cane payment for the 2008 season to 15th of this month.

CEO Deo Sharan said traditionally the payment is made by the end of October, however, considering the Hindu festival of Diwali falls on the 17th, this early payment will no doubt give the cane farmers something to be cheerful about on this special occasion.

The corporation will soon announce the payment amount.

Meanwhile, as part of government's initiative to boost cane production, growers who have exceeded their production under the farm basic allotment criteria will be paid a FBA incentive bonus of $3 per tonne for cane produced in excess of their FBA tonnage.

A total of $660,875 will be paid out under this scheme.
