The Fiji Sugar Corporation is adamant that Fiji will no longer have to import sugar this year.

Chairman Abdul Khan says with the crushing season to start in a few months time, they are confident that the 10,000 tonnes of sugar imported from Thailand will be enough to cater for the local consumption before the local production will kick in.

The price that Fiji paid for the imported sugar is around $2000 per tonne while we get a price of less than a $1000 per tonne when we export sugar.
