The Fiji Sugar Corporation today confirmed that fire incident at the Ba Sugar mill boiler yesterday morning has caused substantial damages and the rehabilitation work is expected to take at least two weeks.

An investigation is underway to establish the cause of the thick black smoke coming out from the boiler section, situated on the second floor of the mill.

With the work expected to take time, the farmers will have to take their cane to the mills in Lautoka and Penang and FSC said that they will be assisting the cane growers in Ba for the additional cost.

FSC Chief Executive, Deo Saran said this arrangement is now in place until Rarawai mill is brought back into operation.
