FSC announces major change
It will now close the portion of the Kavanagasau/Rarawai tramline from Batiri point to Kavanagasau following an order issued by the Sugar Tribunal.
FSC's Chief Executive Deo Saran said that the Tribunal has told FSC that there has been significant decline in the production of cane in the Cuvu and Olosara sectors and there is no evidence that the production will increase in the future.
Saran said that apart from the portion of Kavanagasau Rarawai Tramline beyond Batiri to be closed, it has also been decided that transportation means for the growers in the Olosara and Cuvu sector is converted to lorry mode.
The Sugar Tribunal has also commented that the Sugar Industry stakeholders and government review the present harvesting and delivery system.
Saran said FSC will be no longer providing rail service past Batiri Point however its officers in Cuvu and Olosara sectors will work with the growers and provide all possible assistance to facilitate harvesting and delivery of their cane to Lautoka Mill.
